Bengal Experience and Transition (BEAT) Team 

This Student Leadership Engagement team is one of the premier opportunities on campus for students to make a positive impact on the incoming student experience at Buffalo State College. The team working for will actively participate in Orientation, Homecoming, and other programs throughout the year for new students and their families.

Student Leadership and Engagement hires students who are leaders on campus looking to leave a legacy at Buffalo State.  The team selected will be expected to work Orientation, participate in events and training throughout the spring semester, be a part of the summer orientations, and fall events including Bengal Bound, Weeks of Welcome, and Homecoming and Family Weekend. In addition to team members, we hire parent leads, team leads, and a DJ.

Bengals Experience and Transition Team Selection Process

Those selected to be a part of the B.E.A.T. Team will be hired for and participate in a years worth of activities that support and enhance the Student Leadership and Engagement Office. There are three steps to applying to be a part of our Transition Team.

  • Review the job descriptions
  • Apply for a position
  • Participate in the interview process

The application process for summer 2022 closes May 27th. There is a progressive interview process before final offers are made to join the Bengal Experience and Transition Team B.E.A.T. Team). Interviews will be conducted the week of June 6th, with a mandatory virtual new hire orientation occurring on June 10th.  

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • Be in good academic standing; and enrolled for the upcoming academic term
  • Be in good disciplinary standing with Buffalo State and Residence Life. Student Leadership and Engagement will verify your records
  • Exhibit good interpersonal, leadership, and presentation skills
  • Possess a professional attitude when dealing with faculty, staff, students, and their families
  • Ability to work during all of the designated dates and times
  • Ability to work as part of a team and individually
  • Must be reliable, flexible, responsible, confident, and display a willingness to help

Responsibilities

  • Enthusiastically welcome new students and family members to Buffalo State
  • ​Develop a professional rapport with new students and their families
  • Be accessible and willing to assist with any information needs of students and families
  • Be willing to volunteer during evening events at Orientation
  • ​Prepare and conduct well-organized and thorough small group meetings for new students
  • Efficiently complete all logistical tasks to ensure the orientation program proceeds smoothly and effectively
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisors
  • Take initiative with unanticipated tasks or problems
  • Lift, carry, move, and prepare supplies and materials
  • Be a team player and willing to interact with incoming students
  • Maintain a positive attitude
  • Mentor students during orientation and throughout the academic year
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Availability

  • The B.E.A.T. Team will be committed to working all of the dates associated with the position. These typically have included training, January Orientation sessions, June, July, and August Orientation sessions
  • ​Must be available to work all dates with no conflicts in schedule, accommodations will not be made for other campus activities or jobs. 
  • Be available during the following events (subject to change)
    • Attend and actively participate in all training sessions. 
    • Fall/Spring Open Houses
    • NYC trips to meet with accepted students and their parents
    • January Orientation week
    • All Summer Orientation Sessions
    • Homecoming and Family Weekend - Fall semester
